The major steps to brewing at home + helpful accessories.
Every year we get excited to welcome new brewers to a hobby we love so much. And while we can't be in the kitchen with you, we're here to help every step of the way. Here's a breakdown of the major steps that you'll see in all of the instructions for each of our kits: | | 0. Pre-Brew: Sanitize Keeping clean is important when making beer. Really important, actually. Proper sanitization helps ensure a successful brew-day and a really tasty batch of beer. Each of our kits comes with a Sanitizer Packet that will help you sanitize all of your equipment on your brew and bottling days. | | | 1. The Mash During The Mash, you're extracting all the sugars, color, and flavor you can from grain. You're basically just steeping grain in hot water—we always say it's a lot like making oatmeal! | | | 2. The Sparge For The Sparge, you'll be placing the cooked grain in a strainer to collect the liquid (called "wort"). You'll then pour additional hot water over it to draw out the color, flavors and all those sugars you unlocked during The Mash. | | | | | | | 3. The Boil The boil is when you get to add hops to your beer. This is also when you'll add other ingredients to your beer for more flavor and depth (for example: adding maple syrup to our Chocolate Maple Porter). | | | 4. Fermentation Fermentation is when your wort becomes beer. To kick off the process, you'll add Beer Making Yeast to your wort (included in each Beer Making Kit and Mix). It usually takes around 2 weeks to ferment and after this step, you're ready to bottle! | | | | | Accessories to help make brew day easier. | | Get your new hobby started with fun flavors and styles. | | | | | | | | | | In this Live Brewing Class, we walk through the process step by step: from the mash to setting up your airlock and everything in between.
