Have you ever sipped water with a psychedelic twist?
Based on recent data, a small but growing group of people are hopping on the trend. By the end of 2022, Keith Stein, co-founder of Psychedelic Water, reported sales of more than 700,000 cans of his beverage since it launched in early 2021. His firm claims the beverage is the first of its kind—a legal blend of water, kava root, damiana leaf, and green tea leaf extract that is "legitimately psychedelic."
Scientists, for their part, aren't convinced.
The Toronto-based company began selling Psychedelic Water online in February 2022, with the hook that it has a "mild mood-boosting effect." Since it emerged on the market, the drink has made $4 million in revenue, with a quarter of 2022 revenue coming from retail stores.
