We may not be able to travel anytime soon, but we can still discover new and different cuisines. Food often embodies the richest aspects of a culture, and spices reveal some of their boldest accents. Cooking with new ingredients and spices presents a different kind of adventure, whether it's your aunt's Cincinnati chili recipe or a dangerous recipe for Szechuan chili oil. Tour our regional spices and regional recipes to travel the globe without stepping out of the kitchen.

Spotlight: Madagascar Vanilla Beans

The humid, northeast corner of Madagascar, known as the Sava region, produces the majority of the world's finest vanilla beans. The plentiful rainfall and fertile, loamy soil create optimal conditions for these delicate plants. While vanilla growing conditions in Sava, Madagascar are nearly perfect, it is the people of Madagascar that make this spice so special.

Globally-Inspired Spice Blends

Peri Peri Mozambique Blend
Chicken on the grill stays startlingly bright and juicy with this Peri Peri Mozambique Blend of smoked paprika, garlic, and bird's eye chili. Peri Peri originated in Mozambique. In Swahili, it means strong pepper. We add onion and bell pepper for an outstanding result. Blend with olive oil, lemon juice, and vinegar for the perfect marinade.
Mexican Chorizo Seasoning
Mexican style chorizo is a fresh version of Iberian sausage. Make your own by combining 2 tablespoons of Mexican Chorizo seasoning and 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar per pound of ground pork or ground tofu and mix well. Rest in the fridge overnight, then braise it for tacos or brown it with diced potatoes for a spicy breakfast hash.

Tandoori Salt-Free Seasoning
The tandoor is the traditional clay oven of northern India. Using a combination of radiant heat, convection, and smoke, it cooks dishes to perfection. This oven is the catalyst for beloved Indian dishes including tandoori murgh and tikka masala. Use our tandoori blend with yogurt to make a delicious marinade.
Oktoberfest Bavarian Rub
Our Oktoberfest Bavarian Rub blend spruces up cold-weather preparations like pickles, beets, and soups. This herbaceous blend adds a comforting, rustic flavor to roasted chicken and potatoes. For full-fledged Gem tlichkeit, serve it with dumplings, potato salad, and sauerkraut on the side.
